CMHC - A wealth of good information

Back to Blog
First things first.  No, I don't work for CMHC (Canadian Mortgage and Housing).  What I will say is CMHC is way more than most people would think it is.

CMHC is commonly known for charging home buyers a fee on a high-ratio insured mortgage, to insure it for the lender.

What you may not know is they are Canada's National Housing Agency. What you should also know about them, is that they have extensive information for potential and current homeowners that you can use for free. It's very good, unbiased information on the whole home-buying and home maintenance process.

For example, they have info on:

- the different professions that will help you find and purchase a home
- professionals to consult for home renovations
- how to have a more eco-friendly home
- how to save money on your heating and cooling costs......

Those are just a small facet of the gold mine of information they have. They also publish and hand-out many brochures, pamphlets, and CD's containing the same information.

The easiest way I have found to access the information is through their internet website at:

It's a great site for home-ownership.
